Many people find collection of the poo sample required for a FIT difficult, unpleasant and unhygienic to perform. However, taking the sample only takes a few minutes with our specialised picker, and there are a number of different methods that may make collecting your poo sample a little easier.
1. Be Prepared
Use a ballpoint pen to write your name and date of birth on your sample collection picker before you have a poo.
Complete the date of sample section after you have had a poo.
Place all the items you need in the toilet with you, such as the instruction leaflet, the sample collection picker, a clean disposable container etc.
2. Collect Your Sample
Read the instructions provided on your instruction leaflet.
Prepare to collect your poo using one of the methods shown below:
Have a poo.
Important
It is important that your poo does NOT come into contact with toilet water.
If this happens, DO NOT CONTINUE.
Instead, store your device in a cool & dry place until you have another bowel movement.
Wash your hands with soap and water then dry thoroughly.
Unscrew the cap of the sample collection picker, holding the cap use the tip of the stick at the end to scrape along the surface of your poo.
Make sure you fill the two dimples on the sampling stick but do not overload picker with poo:
Replace the sampling stick into the tube and screw the cap closed.
Wash your hands with soap and water then dry thoroughly.
Write the date of sample on the outside of the tube.
3. Final Checks
Make sure that your full name, date of birth, and date of sample are clearly written on your sample.
Place your sample (and any other requested paperwork if needed) into your return envelope.
