Public Health Wales are pleased to announce the further optimisation of their bowel screening programme by reducing the minimum screening age another year to 50. This reduction marks the completion of their phased roll-out to include all eligible participants aged 50-74 years and will result in thousands more people who are most at risk of developing bowel disease, automatically receiving the test kit. The test measures how much blood is in your poo which could be a sign of cancer and is quick and easy to do with results typically available within 2 weeks.
Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, with more than 2,000 people diagnosed every year in Wales – 60 of these are between the ages of 51-54 with the risk increasing with age. Screening plays a significant part in improving cancer outcomes as it enables the earlier detection of the disease before symptoms appear. If caught early enough, bowel cancer can be cured.
Alpha Laboratories proudly supports Bowel Screening Wales with this via our complete FIT solution, making a direct contribution on improving bowel cancer survival rates and helping to save more lives.
