This website is published by Alpha Laboratories Limited, a specialist diagnostic company that has been a leader in faecal testing technology in the UK for over 20 years. As the market leader for guaiac-based faecal occult blood testing in hospital laboratories, Alpha Laboratories became involved with the national bowel cancer screening programmes, as they were introduced, winning tenders in all four UK countries. These initiatives assess the average risk in asymptomatic populations, aiming to detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more likely to be effective.
Technology has now changed with the introduction of more specific and sensitive quantitative faecal immunochemical (FIT) testing that can be automated. FIT has been implemented across the UK for screening programmes and for symptomatic testing. Alpha Laboratories continues to provide quantitative FIT as the front-line test in the Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish Bowel Screening Programmes.
Alpha Laboratories’ experience can support clinicians and clinical scientists in establishing a FIT service, providing education, product demonstrations and logistics solutions.
